Self-Represented Litigant Help Desk

TENTH JUDICIAL CIRCUIT SELF-REPRESENTED LITIGANT HELP DESK

The Self-Represented Litigant Help Desk is a project of the Tenth Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Committee of the Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI). The Help Desk is staffed by pro bono attorneys who provide brief advice referrals, and limited scope representation to eligible self-represented litigants for approximately 30 minutes per litigant at designated areas in the Peoria and Tazewell County Courthouses.

In Tazewell County, the Help Desk will be open in the Courthouse Law Library from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the 2nd and 3rd Friday of each month through April. Starting in May, the Help Desk will move to the 3rd floor courtroom from 10:00 a.m. to noon on the 3rd Wednesday and 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on the 4th Thursday. Those seeking assistance will be seen on a first come, first serve basis.

To be eligible for assistance, the self-represented litigant must meet the following criteria:

  • The litigant must be proceeding in the matter for which they are seeking assistance on a self-represented basis and not be receiving the assistance of an attorney in the matter;
  • The litigant’s household must be within 200% of federal poverty guidelines; and
  • The litigant must not have received assistance through the Help Desk previously on this matter.
