About Us
The history of this office dates back to 1827, when Tazewell County was formed out of the eastern portion of Peoria County (some folks here would say it was the better part). We are proud to have been a part of the Eighth Circuit that Abraham Lincoln rode when he was practicing law in the late 1840’s and early 1850’s – in fact, the Great Emancipator was known to have served as a judge here in Tazewell County from time to time!
The mission of the Circuit Clerk’s office is to perform our statutory duties as efficiently and as economically as possible. As the administrative arm of the Circuit Court, we are charged with maintaining official court records, recording documents for filing and appeals, serving as a source of data and information for various government agencies and the general public.
We strive to make this website as user-friendly as possible, so to that end if you have any suggestions or recommendations for how we can improve it or any of the other services that we provide, please don’t hesitate to contact me at (309) 477-2214 or by email [email protected].
As always, it is an honor and a privilege to serve the citizens of Tazewell County.
Sincerely,
Lincoln C. Hobson
Clerk of the Circuit Court
